Core Commits Pass a Quiet Milestone in 2026
The commit log does not make a press release. It still tells you whether a project is alive. This year, it is.

WordPress core crossed another round-number commit milestone this year without a party. That is fine. The interesting part is who is committing: more docs, more tests, and fewer drive-by whitespace diffs.
Release leads say the bottleneck is review, not patches. If you want to help and you freeze at Gutenberg, tests and docs still need humans.
Milestones are vanity until you look at the mix. The mix this year looks like a project that intends to keep shipping.
