WordCamp organizers are changing the shape of the weekend. Contributor Day is no longer a quiet Saturday for people who already know the Make blogs. Several flagship events are running guided tables for documentation, photos, and first patches, with mentors who have a script instead of a hope.
The theory is simple. Community health is a pipeline problem. If the only people who contribute are the people who already contribute, the project ages in place. Holding a slice of tickets for first-timers is an experiment worth watching.
Travel and visa costs still gate who can walk into the room. Organizers know that. The complementary move is remote contributor hours tied to the same event hashtag, so a hallway conversation can continue on a Tuesday night.
